Inclusion and Diversity: Creating Responsive Classroom Environments That Serve Each Child
June 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
|Take a look around your classroom. Now, look at the children who inhabit your classroom environment each day. Does your classroom facilitate the culture, learning style, and development of each of your students? If it does not, then you have created barriers toward building relationships and enhancing learning opportunities with your children. All children want to feel welcomed, accepted, and fully included in their classroom environment. Very often, only minor modifications need to be made in order to ensure that every child can be successful and thrive within the classroom setting. We will examine several creative ideas for ensuring the inclusion of all children with developmental delays or disabilities. Diversity is another aspect of inclusion. In this session, we will define culture and examine how culture impacts learning. You will explore how various aspects of each child’s culture can be integrated into the classroom environment. Strategies for building relationships with families will also be discussed.
