Frequently Asked Questions about the NC Pre-K) program...updated August 2, 2011
The NC Pre-K Program provides free, high quality pre-kindergarten education for eligible four-year-olds who may not have had access to opportunities that prepare them for success in school. The program is built on the belief that all children
have a tremendous capacity to learn if given the proper materials, guidance and support.
All NC Pre-K classrooms must meet specific standards designed to provide the kind of quality experiences that will best prepare four-year-olds for success in kindergarten. Smart Start Rowan contracts with local child care providers, Head Starts and the local school systems to provide NC Pre-K services for children in Rowan County.
Children who are considered "at-risk" due to lower income levels, chronic health conditions, limited English proficiency, identified disabilities (IEP) or other developmental needs are encouraged to apply. Children with parents or guardians serving in the military are also encouraged to apply.
The Smart Start Rowan - NC Pre-K program is currently serving 334 four-year-olds for the 2010-11 school year, ensuring all are well prepared for success as they enter kindergarten next year!
2011-12 Application Process for 4 year olds:
Your child must be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2011 (must be born on or before August 31, 2007).
